Interval Training
A method of training that can be used to obtain either an ANAEROBIC or AEROBIC adaptation by the body.  It may be used in the swimming pool, on an athletics track, on the sports field or in a natural environment, such as countryside, woodlands, hills or on sand.

Periods of work are interspersed with rest/recovery periods to allow the body to recover before the effects of OXYGEN DEBT can affect them adversely.

Remember these 4 important variables.

1.   The DURATION/ distance of the interval

2.   The INTENSITY of the interval

3.   The LENGTH of the recovery period.

4.   The NUMBER of efforts/recovery intervals.

The intervals that you have to do in the swimming pool are ANAEROBIC as they are designed to prepare you for the 20 second swim for the personal survival.
