Oxygen Debt
This is where, following ANAEROBIC exercise, the body has to consume an amount of oxygen which is above the rate of consumption it would normally have at rest. In other words, the body is taking in oxygen to supply the muscles which were starved of it during the exercise period.

During HIGH INTENSITY or ANAEROBIC activities, the body will be unable to sustain work for long periods without incurring an OXYGEN DEBT. This is usually under three minutes of HIGH INTENSITY work.

We have all experienced O.D. when doing cross country. As we all race off at a fast pace, we will reach a point where we have to slow down to a lower intensity, or we will not be able to proceed (Oxygen Deficit). If we try to keep going at the same fast pace, we will eventually have to stop to get oxygen to the muscles that have not been able to get enough as we have raced along.
